Gustavian Mirror

The mirror is made with inspiration from the Gustavian style, which has had a great influence on Swedish interior design and craftsmanship. The original on which it is based was made sometime in the 18th century, and the oval form is today relatively rare among Gustavian mirrors.

It is made in birch and lime. Around the frame is ornamentation in the form of pearl moulding and ribbon moulding — details often associated with the Gustavian style. At the top sits a rosette with ribbon-shaped decorations, and at the bottom the mirror is finished with a wreath of leaves.

The mirror is painted with a home-mixed linseed oil paint in a muted green tone. After painting, the surface was sanded back to give a more worn and aged appearance, so the mirror does not feel newly made but instead takes on a rustic, slightly weathered character.
